Projects in Benin increase both healthcare capacity and ability to document births
A multi-compartment ventilated improved pit latrine is seen here at the newly constructed health clinic site in the village of Godjekoara, Benin in Africa. The health clinic was one of two recently completed in the region by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District in support of AFRICOM and coordinated with the U.S. State Department. Both clinics feature similar latrine facilities, which are a type of specially designed latrines built in areas where is no dependable supply of piped water that feature ventilation pipes with built-in fly screens to reduce the gathering of flies and other disease carrying insects that often gather at restroom sites and are laid out to reduce lingering odors associated with their use.
