    Romanian and U.S. officials in Campia Turzii celebrate new facilities at Air Base 71, part of more than $100 million in U.S. investments in the Romanian base

    CAMPIA TURZII, Romania – Romanian and U.S. officials joined together at Air Base 71 today to celebrate the completion of three new facilities intended to increase the capacity of the Romanian Air Force base here to host operations in support of regional security. The three projects are part of a larger, more than $100 million construction program at the base funded through the United States’ European Deterrence Initiative.

    Infrastructure Program Enhances Cooperation, Collaboration Between U.S. and Poland

    U.S. and Polish officials marked the beginning of the Poland Provided Infrastructure (PPI) program with a groundbreaking ceremony for a munitions storage area in Powidz, Poland June 2. This project is funded by the NATO Security Investment Program (NSIP), Poland and the United States Air Force. The project is being executed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and managed as part of the PPI program through our strong bi-lateral partnership.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District’s Northern Europe Area Office in Poznan, Poland has been the focal point for the Corps of Engineers’ more than $350 million construction mission in Poznan and many other sites throughout Poland over the past several years. These projects are already benefiting both U.S. forces stationed in Poland on a rotational basis as well as the Polish hosts operating the bases.

    Since the 2008 Russian-Georgian War forced them to leave, hundreds of families have called the Prezeti Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp home. Made up of hundreds of simple, identical homes in the foothills of the Northern Caucasus Mountains, the camp only has limited supporting infrastructure, a situation the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has worked to improve.

    TIRANA, Albania – Albania’s telemedicine network is completely integrated and functional following a large-scale effort by U.S. and Albanian partners to overhaul a dozen facilities around this small country in southeastern Europe.     U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District will manage more construction in Eastern and Central Europe this year than it has in the past 40 years combined. Over the next three years, the district will execute up to 145 military construction and facilities sustainment, restoration and modernization projects in Poland, the Baltics and Balkans as part of the $1 billion European Reassurance Initiative to support NATO allies and U.S. partners in the region.
