    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers construction in Poland reassures allies and supports regional security

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District’s Northern Europe Area Office in Poznan, Poland has been the focal point for the Corps of Engineers’ more than $350 million construction mission in Poznan and many other sites throughout Poland over the past several years. These projects are already benefiting both U.S. forces stationed in Poland on a rotational basis as well as the Polish hosts operating the bases.

    USACE Real Estate services play key role in U.S. missions in Europe

    Europe District’s Real Estate Division provides support directly to projects like the Via dei Martinelli widening effort in Italy, but their mission goes well beyond individual U.S. Army Corps of Engineers construction projects. Their team actually provides key real estate support to all U.S. Army forces stationed and operating in the European theater.

    USACE joins partners in Nigeria for groundbreaking ceremony for A-29 Super Tucano support facilities

    On February 15, U.S. Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner visited Kainji Air Force Base to break ground on the final phase of the $38 million construction project for the A-29 Super Tucanos’ support facilities. They were joined by the Deputy Director for the Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate Ronald Taylor and senior Nigerian Air Force officials.

The German Construction Administration, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District and the U.S. Defense Health Agency, awarded a €859 million (approximately $969 million) contract to Züblin and Gilbane Joint Venture to construct a new hospital at Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Germany.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers modernizing facilities in support of 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) mission in Italy

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District is partnering with U.S. Army Garrison Italy and the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) to provide improved facilities here and nearby at the Caserma Ederle portion of the garrison as part of a roughly $30 million sustainment, repair and modernization, or SRM, program.

    USACE Europe District leader recognized for excellence for work in Southern Europe

    From a jump tower renovation for paratroopers in Vicenza, Italy to a fire station for humanitarian assistance in Armenia to European Deterrence Initiative projects in Romania and Bulgaria, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District’s Bryce Jones is responsible for documenting, evaluating, and monitoring contractor performance for an area that spans more than 2,800 miles and active projects spread across seven countries including Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. For his outstanding performance in his role of Administrative Contracting Officer for Europe District’s Southern Europe Area Office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognized Jones as the Administrative Contracting Officer of the Year during a virtual awards ceremony Oct. 25.

    U.S. Army delivers new water supply system benefiting displaced Georgians

    Since the 2008 Russian-Georgian War forced them to leave, hundreds of families have called the Prezeti Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp home. Made up of hundreds of simple, identical homes in the foothills of the Northern Caucasus Mountains, the camp only has limited supporting infrastructure, a situation the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has worked to improve.

    U.S. Army delivers projects to help serve the most vulnerable in Albania

    The United States Embassy in Albania celebrated the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of ties between the United States and Albania earlier this year, highlighting the close bond between the two nations since 1991. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has supported that relationship for years, carrying out humanitarian assistance projects throughout Albania funded through the European Command – or EUCOM.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District has delivered an additional secure home for part of the Israeli Air Force’s fleet of F-35 fighter jets, with a small ceremony marking the completion of another Hardened Hangar project on site earlier this year in March.

    U.S. Army-delivered helipad projects at hospitals in Croatia to hasten emergency medical care and save lives

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is delivering three modern helicopter landing zones at hospitals across Croatia to help reduce transportation times in emergency situations and ultimately save lives. The helicopter landing zone projects are funded through the United States European Command, or EUCOM, and are being delivered in close coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb.

    Europe District’s Office of Counsel tackles unique challenges in supporting overseas mission

    The Office of Counsel is critical to delivering projects in any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District office — and overseas in Europe District is no exception.
  • The Mayor of Malanville, accepts keys to a newly constructed health clinic from Humanitarian Assistance Program Coordinator Cosme Quenum, a local national with the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin in the village of Money, Benin in Africa at the end of January 2021. The clinic and various associated facilities also built with it comprise one of two similar clinic projects recently completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in that region of Benin through funding from AFRICOM and coordinated closely with the U.S. State Department.

    Projects in Benin increase both healthcare capacity and ability to document births

    Villagers in two communities in northeast Benin will no longer need to cross the border to give birth or receive other basic medical care with the delivery of two new medical facilities in the remote villages of Money and Godjekoara, both of which sit in the larger border region of the Commune of Malanville. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District implemented and managed the construction of the facilities. Project requirements and funding were provided by AFRICOM with onsite coordination provided by the U.S. Embassy and Office of Security Cooperation.

    Graf to the Future: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working with USAG Bavaria to modernize facilities for troops at Grafenwoehr

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District is working with U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the 7th Army Training Command, the garrison, the German government, and other partners to deliver new facilities for brigades training in Grafenwoehr, who are often en route to deployments.
