The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is delivering 29 family homes, including associated infrastructure like drainage, utilities and roads in a newly built neighborhood for Soldiers and their families. The homes are part of a larger, long-term collaboration between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the garrison to provide new and renovated family housing and other quality of life projects for Soldiers and their families at Rose Barracks.

The project is a recent example of the kind of humanitarian assistance work the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers does in Albania in close partnership with the U.S. European Command and the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania’s capital. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively managing several additional projects involving either the construction of new facilities or the renovation of existing facilities to help improve services Albania can provide to its youngest, oldest and most vulnerable citizens.

    U.S. Army delivers projects to help serve the most vulnerable in Albania

    The United States Embassy in Albania celebrated the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of ties between the United States and Albania earlier this year, highlighting the close bond between the two nations since 1991. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has supported that relationship for years, carrying out humanitarian assistance projects throughout Albania funded through the European Command – or EUCOM.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to deliver on F-35 program in Israel

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District has delivered an additional secure home for part of the Israeli Air Force’s fleet of F-35 fighter jets, with a small ceremony marking the completion of another Hardened Hangar project on site earlier this year in March.

    Europe District’s Office of Counsel tackles unique challenges in supporting overseas mission

    The Office of Counsel is critical to delivering projects in any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District office — and overseas in Europe District is no exception.
  • The Mayor of Malanville, accepts keys to a newly constructed health clinic from Humanitarian Assistance Program Coordinator Cosme Quenum, a local national with the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin in the village of Money, Benin in Africa at the end of January 2021. The clinic and various associated facilities also built with it comprise one of two similar clinic projects recently completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in that region of Benin through funding from AFRICOM and coordinated closely with the U.S. State Department.

    Projects in Benin increase both healthcare capacity and ability to document births

    Villagers in two communities in northeast Benin will no longer need to cross the border to give birth or receive other basic medical care with the delivery of two new medical facilities in the remote villages of Money and Godjekoara, both of which sit in the larger border region of the Commune of Malanville. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District implemented and managed the construction of the facilities. Project requirements and funding were provided by AFRICOM with onsite coordination provided by the U.S. Embassy and Office of Security Cooperation.

    Graf to the Future: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working with USAG Bavaria to modernize facilities for troops at Grafenwoehr

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District is working with U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the 7th Army Training Command, the garrison, the German government, and other partners to deliver new facilities for brigades training in Grafenwoehr, who are often en route to deployments.
  • After serving 20 years in the Army, Dean Blegen served nearly 20 more with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District working in Community Mail Room 410 at the Amelia Earhart Center in Weisbaden, Germany. During that time, he touched the lives of thousands of people who have been a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District for the last two decades as well as the additional U.S. agencies that call the AEC home.     Europe District team mourns the loss of the 'Mayor of the Amelia Earhart Center'

    Dean Blegen had been a fixture of Community Mail Room 410, or CMR, 410 in the Amelia Earhart Center in Wiesbaden since it was stood up nearly 20 years ago and made deep connections with many people in that time. These deep connections with people, co-workers and friends made it even more shocking when earlier this year when he suddenly fell critically ill in late February and subsequently passed in early March.

    When school starts on Sept. 15, the nearly 270 students of the Kveshi School in Tbilisi, Georgia will return to school this fall with a renewed sense of excitement. The beginning of the 2020 academic marks the return to their newly renovated school.

    Sacramento District’s Bryte Yard teammates Greg Jerman, James Helm, Tony Theard, Vince Diaz and Mike Guidry fashion a ladder as a base for a fall prevention safety display. The display is used to remind workers of the importance of preventing falls in the construction industry. The Sacramento District maintenance yard, located in the West Sacramento community of Bryte, is home to the team of craftsmen with skills in vessel and heavy equipment operation, carpentry, electrical, pipefitting, plumbing, metal fabrication, welding. The Bryte Yard Team will be participation in the virtual 7th Annual Safety Stand-Down set for Sept. 14 -18.

    Originally scheduled for May 4-8, the event is rescheduled for Sept. 14 -18. USACE is expanding on OSHA’s efforts to include fall prevention in the workplace to encompass all elements of the USACE mission.

    Engineer Soldier makes waves on Navy base

    REDZIKOWO, Poland — Maj. Katie Werback held her breath. She was seconds from jumping into 39 degree water, for fun. Like most Sundays, she led a reluctant but excited group into the frigid Baltic Sea. As a Soldier assigned to a U.S. Navy base approximately 15 miles from the water, she couldn’t resist the chance to join a local polar plunge club during her time here. Despite her enthusiasm for the water, it’s more common to find Werback in construction boots than a swimsuit. She’s part of the Europe District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers team managing the second Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defense project in Europe.     European Reassurance Initiative projects on track in Estonia, throughout Europe

    Twenty-two European Reassurance Initiative infrastructure and construction projects managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District at Tapa are nearly complete, and will support an influx of U.S. and NATO forces as heel-to-toe rotations begin in early 2017. The projects are a subset of a $500 million ERI Program the district oversees for U.S. Army and Air Force military construction, and facilities, sustainment, restoration and modernization in Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, with future work planned in Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway and Slovakia. Europe District has approximately 260 projects in design or construction to make improvements to airfields, military quarters, operations centers, training ranges and support facilities throughout Europe.
